I’ve started this reading year with a bang. I’m currently immersed in three book selections, each serving a different purpose in my literary life: the social selection, the purse selection, and the “what I’m really reading” selection.
The Social Selection
As a mood reader, I choose books based on my current interests, regardless of their release date or popularity. However, I also explore the New York Times Best Seller’s List to join in lively book discussions with friends who rely on it as their guide for what to read. After finishing my December read, Yellow Face by R.F. Kuang, I downloaded my January social selection, My Name is Barbra by Barbra Streisand. I chose this 48-hour audiobook because my mom was a Streisand fan and we enjoyed her songs and films over the years. Also, with her rich career spanning seven decades, this EGOT must surely have many exciting stories to share.
I’m only twelve hours in but I’d recommend this memoir to any Streisand fan. Listening to her narrate feels like you’re in the midst of a long and chatty conversation with an old friend whom you’ve not seen in a while.
