The 2024 Booker Prize Shortlist is Here
Which books are you excited to read?
On September 16, I and other book nerds were excited to see which books made it onto the 2024 Booker Prize Shortlist. The Booker Prize, one of the world’s most influential literary awards, is given annually to the best English-language novel published in the United Kingdom and/ or Ireland.
The Booker Prize Foundation appoints a five-person panel of judges, consisting of authors, publishers, journalists, and artists from various disciplines, to select the winner. The process begins with a longlist of 13 books (this year’s longlist was released on July 30th), giving serious book lovers time to read and speculate on which books will or should make the shortlist.
The next round of cuts will lead to the winner, which will be announced on November 12th. The winner will receive £50,000, international exposure, and a major career boost!
Booker Prize runners-up receive £2,500, a bound edition of their book, and, of course, worldwide recognition.
This year’s shortlist includes five women and one man making this the largest number of women to appear on the shortlist in Booker’s 55-year history.
